Championship Drive: 10.05 Boys Soccer

The Districts are a week away and with it, the 2nd Season will begin, with fresh slates for 12 SVL Squads looking to keep their season alive as long as possible.  With that being said, there’s still unfinished business in the race for the SVL Championship.  Let’s take a look at the scenarios that will decide the Regular Season Champion and 2nd Place.

Currently Grand Blanc and Dow, the defending Champs, are tied for the League Lead.  Dow defeated Grand Blanc early in the season 3-0 but fell to Lapeer 1-0 last month.  Grand Blanc has one conference game remaining, against Bay City Central, at home on Monday.  Dow has 2 SVL matches remaining, starting with Bay City Central at home today and at Powers Catholic on Monday.  It’s elementary at this point, if both win out, they will both share the title, if either team falls, it then opens up a realm of possibilities for either team because of Dow having 2 games remaining vs. the 1 for Grand Blanc.

While Grand Blanc and Dow battle for the top spot, 3 teams are grouped together that are likely vying for 3rd Place but could slip into 2nd if Dow were to fall in both their final 2 games.  Lapeer and Midland High are both tied for 3rd Place, with Heritage a half game behind, with the same win total but one more in the loss column.  Lapeer finishes off their season at Carman-Ainsworth and then will host Bay City Western in the finale next Monday.  Midland High heads to Davison tonight and will host Arthur Hill next Monday.  Heritage will need some help to head up the standings but look to take care of business on their own, with 2 road games to finish up the season, at Arthur Hill and Davison.

The SVL Race aside, let’s have a look at the District Brackets for the MHSAA Tournament below.
