A 7-3 game at the Half turned into one of the most thrilling games of the Season in the 2nd Half, seeing 6 Lead Changes, Explosive Plays and several 4th Down Conversions that ultimately decided the outcome. It was one of those games, where as a former player you see how it's playing out and you get that feeling of dread, knowing someone is going to have to lose this game, a game in which both teams played their hearts out til the Final Whistle.
After a defensive slugfest in the 1st half, Bay City Western struck first in the 3rd Quarter, with a 96 Yard TD Run by Aidan Robinson, putting the Warriors in front 10-7. The Warriors got back in business on defense after an Eli Meylan Interception and drove the ball inside the Oiler 5 but turned the ball over on downs.
Mt. Pleasant, with new life drove the ball down the field but faced 4th Down. QB Logan Borodychuk then found Riley Olsen in the corner of the Endzone, over 2 Warriors defenders for the TD, grabbing the lead back 14-10.
It was BCW's turn to answer and they did with a methodically drive, capped off with a QB Keep up the middle by Jackson Clark for 3 Yards and the Score, making it 17-14, just a few minutes into the 4th. 5 Minutes later, the Oilers answered with a 17 Yard TD Pass from Borodychuk to Jaxon Dern, Oilers now up 21-17.
With just about 5 minutes left in the game, the Warriors didn't panic and just settled into their normal offense, powering the ball down the field. With about 2 minutes remaining in the game, Robinson struck again, breaking several tackles and then in the open field, outracing everyone 35 Yards and the Score, putting BCW back on top 24-21.
With the clock ticking under 2 minutes and the Oilers facing 4th and 6th, it looked and felt like the see-saw might have been over. Coming out of of a timeout, Mt. Pleasant drew up a play that didn't focus on the sticks, it focused on going for it all. Borodychuk dropped back and went deep over the middle, just over 2 Warrior defenders and into the arms of Olsen again. Olsen tucked the ball away and raced the distance for a 56 Yard TD and the lead at 28-24.
With just over a minute to go, Western had another shot but there just wasn't enough time left and the defense for one of the teams were just due to make a stop. On this evening, it was the Oilers who made the Final Save on Defense and closed out the game, remaining undefeated in SVL Play.
Borodychuk finished with 245 Yards Passing and 3 TDs. Riley Olsen led all Receivers with 121 Yards and 2 TDs on 5 Catches. Easton Day added 107 and 6 Grabs. Caleb Neubecker scored the 1st Half's only Touchdown and rushed for 99 Yards. Logan Zeneberg led the Oiler Defense with 14 Tackles, Tyler Hutchins added 7 and on offense had a huge 4th Down conversion in the 2nd Half on a direct snap.
For the Warriors it was another punch to the gut, in a season where they have had some tough breaks but what they have showed, is they continue to get back up game after game and I don't expect any different next week. Aidan Robinson put on a show with 261 Yards and Touchdowns on the Ground. QB Jackson Clark added 60 and a Score. Eli Meylan booted a 32 Yard FG and added the INT on defense, with Nick Doran also garnering an Interception. ... See MoreSee Less
Davison QB Sawyer Glennie Passed for 5 TDs (201 Yards) and Ran for another, in a game that also saw 5 other Cardinals reach the endzone, on their way to 5-0.
Running Back AJ Hill led the Ground Game with 100 Yards and 2 Scores and adding another on a 19 Yard TD Grab. Buddy Banks-Williams hauled in 75 Yards on 4 Catches and 2 TDs, with Wesley Hughes leading all Receivers with 80 Yards and a TD. Micah Kemp added a 7 Yard Receiving TD. Gavin Elmquist also got in on the action, adding an 8 Yard Rushing TD in the Fourth Quarter.
On Defense a lot of Cardinals saw action, spreading the out the work and tackle load. Jalen Edwards led the Cards with 5 Tackles and a Sack. Tyler Dosh added a Sack and 2 TFLs. Kayden Nicholson and Jaxen Clark also added TFLs. ... See MoreSee Less
